Young Riders

Calling all Young Riders!

We have an active children’s cycling scene where our focus is on having fun in a safe environment.

Our usual way in for new riders is to sign up for our 5 session off-road coaching series. These are held at Perdiswell Park and our ideal for 6–11-year-olds. If you are already an experienced rider you can join us on any of our rides or activities.

We run road rides for the over 8’s on summer evenings and have a faster run for 12-14-year-olds. In the Autumn cyclo-cross training sessions get us ready for the West Midlands Cyclocross League. Days out exploring, mountain biking rides and pump track sessions add an adventure element to activities and contribute to our Club awards scheme.

WSJCC Young Rider Awards

The Club recognises the achievements of its young riders through a Bronze, Silver and Gold award scheme. Each standard combines technical abilities and riding experiences. Each level is challenging to achieve and will take several seasons to complete. The award is presented at the Club annual social and awards dinner in November. More info here:

In addition, each year the Club recognises the endeavours of the rider who has progressed the most and participated in in the most club activities and rides. The award is for ‘Best Young Rider’ and the trophy presented at the annual social awards dinner can be kept by the rider for their trophy cabinet.

And finally there are awards presented for Time Trialling (over 12’s only) and for cyclo cross. The Dave Jennings Junior Trophy is awarded to the young rider with the most points in the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League held each Autumn. As there are many age categories the award can potentially go a rider of any age.
