Successful weekend at Stourport Crits and Bynea

Worcester St Johns Cycling Club had another successful weekend of racing carrying on this summer’s tally of near record times in mostly favourable weather conditions.

The club’s Vince Page and his wife Sarah organised a very popular LVRC Criterium race at the Stourport Cycle track whilst time trialists battled it out on a fast R25/3H course at Bynea Open in South Wales Wales .

The first race of the Stourport Crit was for cyclists in the over 55’s category  with Saint’s members Catherine Coley and Andrea Turner flying the club colours. It was Andrea’s first ever group race!

Within a few laps the race split into two groups, Catherine in the leading group and Andrea in the second. This was how it stayed until the prime (mid race prize ) which Catherine won, then Andy Jones Wolverhampton Wheelers attacked and shortly after Tommy Barlow chased after him.

Jones held on for the win, Barlow held the group off for second and Catherine won the sprint for 3rd from the rest of the group.

Andrea lost contact with the second group with just a few laps to go.

Both ladies did the club proud.

Race 2 was for over 40 to 55 years.

Club stalwarts Vince Page and Adrian Bird rode for Worcester St John’s club.

The pace was fast from the start and despite this the bunch stayed together, until Steve Minton of  Ludlow Brewery RT got away on his own. Despite pressure from the bunch he stayed away for a well deserved win.

Vince sprinted well to take 4th and win his age category, with Adrian just behind in 6th.
