Simon Garrett and Simon Adcook represented the Worcester St Johns in Wales on Saturday 10th September on the R25/3H. Block headwinds on the first 15 mile section and torrential rain were the orders of the day.
It was like riding in a river at times alongside misted visors and unpredictable gusts of wind. Many riders went down the bank off the bars due to the tricky conditions.
In the main event Simon Garrett scored a PB with 51:50. A remarkable time given the conditions. We left before full results were issued but it looks like this could be a top 20 position for Simon.
The fastest time was by former two time Olympic rowing champion and New Zealand’s entry for next weeks World TT Championship Hamish Bond with an almost unbelievable 45:51. An average of 32.8mph…
Second place was Scott Davies of Team Wiggins on 47:40.
It’s a sign of the ever increasing speeds in time trials that my LTS of 55:07 wasn’t quick enough to qualify for the main event. The cut off point was around 52:30. This left 67 riders in the overflow event, myself included. I finished on 56:23; my second fastest time of the season and a position of fourth in the competition.
See below picture of Simon Garrett after the ride, partly blinded by the driving rain.
A day pretty low on fun!
