Coronavirus – Update May 2021
Club cycling activities have now recommenced. We will continue to follow the guidance of British Cycling, Cycling UK and other cycling bodies in running our events.
We will be running occasional Friday evening road rides and weekend activities June – Sept. To receive information about these and be added to our e-mail list for 2021, please message: [email protected]. Our next off-road coaching series for new young riders will be in the Autumn. Tuesday June 1st we have hired the Stourport Track for coaching and fun races (£2). Friday 4th June we have Bikeability Safe Cycling course for free. July 11th we have a full club meet up with all sorts of rides going out and aiming to come back at the same time for a social.
Our insurance is through Cycling UK. They stipulate that we can offer 3 club events to non-member guests. After this young riders need to be Members of WSJCC. Joining is simple via our website.
Road Rides for 8 to 12s are usually about 10 – 15 miles on quiet country lanes. Usually any bike is fine. . Parents please use your own judgement as to whether your child is ready for the road, bearing in mind that Cycling UK says traffic awareness develops around the ages of 8 to 10. https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/cycling-guide/cycling-road-children
We also run from time to time a 12-15 year olds road ride, either as a course designed to bridge from young rider to senior rider, or just as a faster and further ride for fun. We’d love to hear from any keen road bike riders of this age to come and join us.
