Kids’s Cycle Hill Climb at Fort Royal Park

Friday evening 17th of May 2024 6:30-7:30pm (sign on from 6.15pm)

This fun challenge event is open to all young riders aged 11 and under – there is no youngest age. Any bike is fine – though one with gears will be better. There are 4 uphill courses and you have to progress from one to the next as they increase in steepness and twistiness. The main 3 courses are on tarmac paths, so nice and grippy even if wet. The last is on very steep grass. There’s also a warm-up short circuit and obstacle course. The event is run by volunteers of local cycling clubs and is free. No need to register in advance, just turn up, sign on, and get riding!.    Enquiries to  [email protected].

For the very youngest we have a children’s entertainer and the playground area will be open. Pop-up refreshments stall too.

Parents and Carers – For the safety of all children and spectators you must make sure your children’s bikes are in good condition. Check especially that both brakes are working and that your child can use them! Also check that the gears and chain won’t slip when put under pressure going uphill. Riders must wear a helmet.

For the safety of children and to avoid barking intimidation, please no dogs, not even on leads, at the event.

On arrival look for the registration tent which will be at the bottom entrance of the park off Wylds Lane.  Register, and then you will be directed to the first climb which starts at 18.40pm.  There are no public toilets at the park –public loos in town.
