In Memory of our fellow club member Basil Best who passed away on February 23rd 2015.
Baz will be remembered in the club as a regular and willing marshal at most of our club and open TT and RR for a great number of years, right up to end of last season.
In recent years he has helped putting out warning signs for many events to keep riders safe. His jokey banter and sense of humor will be sadly missed.
Baz first joined the club about 1949/50 until he was called up to join the army in 1952. He spent some time in Kenya during the Mau Mau uprising.
I first met Baz on a few club runs as I joined about 1952, as a 14 year old school boy. I can still hear him in amongst the banter. We reminisced about those days the last time I was able to visit him.
We were both only in the club for about 4 years and met up again when we rejoined in our fourties.
He spent his working life in the building trade.
Baz had many interests and hobbies including sailing and model trains (his layout nearly filled his garage,) making and flying radio controlled gliders in his later years. He liked his boys toys.
He was proud of his family, and our thoughts go out to Janet, their 3 sons Vic, Steve, Nic, daughter Bridget, grandchildren and all their family.
We will miss him at our first TTs, but feel he will be remembered, especially by older members.
