Club 10 Mile Time Report – Severn Stoke K46/10

A large number of riders failed to make the start tonight leaving the club TT league points to those who took the risk and rode in what turned out to be dry and cool conditions. The ten miles race was won by points leader Simon Garrett in 21 minutes 43 seconds pushing Jason Milner into 2nd and visiting rider Nick Slim from Leisure Lakes RT into 3rd.

Ollie Morgan and Harry Tait were fastest junior and U16 riders both with impressive times of 22.56 and 26.44 respectively. Chris Pettifer took 9 seconds off his PB, no mean feat on a slow night. Most notable ride goes to Mark Daffin who rode a cyclo-cross bike with aero-bars to record 26.11.

Worcester St Johns Club Time Trial held on Tuesday 25th July 2017 and run on the K47/25 Rhydd 25 Course – Brittlebank Bowl Handicap 25.

Half the 25 mile course was soaked in sunshine, the other half in showers. Fastest time of the night went to Simon Garrett in 56 mins 32 seconds. Visiting riders Kevin Sargent from Saracen RC and Stuart Day were both pleased with their respective times while Steven Clarke suffered another puncture on the rain drenched roads.

Midland Air Ambulance donation £407.47

Martin Staines collected unwanted bicycles, cycling kit, books and assorted bicycle related objects from club members and sold these on a club table at the Worcester St Johns CC cycle jumble in February.

The final amount made was £407.57 which was donated to the Midland Air Ambulance – a service that we hope no club member will ever need to use, but it is always good to know it’s there!

Club Reliability Ride Sunday 29th January 2017

The WSJCC Reliability Ride will take place on Sunday 29/01/2017.

HQ for this event will be The Worcester Auto Club building at Perdiswell, Worcester. Venue available from 0900. There is some parking at the venue and toilets on site. However, there are no changing facilities.

As usual, a choice of two routes will be available. A 30 mile route and a 48 mile route.

Rides will commence at 0930 hrs following ‘sign on’, payment of the grand sum of £4 and a short safety brief.

Following payment for the use of the venue the remaining funds will be donated to the WSJCC chosen charity as nominated by the Club Committee.

Now for the ‘beg’…..if we have any proficient cake bakers out there who can assist in providing refreshment for weary riders following the completion of the ride (the weather for this ride is traditionally horrendous) your help would be very much appreciated.

Please FB message me if you can assist.

2017 Club Time Trial Calendar

The Tuesday night club time trial calendar is now published. Click on the link below to download or view.

There are several new courses. We have introduced these to avoid racing through Kempsey, to reduce the impact of our races and V.C.Sevale events in the same area and to use other areas around Worcester. We have added a final, final event the same as V.C.Sevale do. This is a 1 kilometre sprint after which the season ends at The Bell Inn, Lower Broadheath with ‘free’ chips and a drink paid for from your TT fees.

NOTE: This schedule has yet to be approved by the Midland District Council so there is a possibility of changes before the season starts.

If you have any queries contact Martin Staines or Graziano Abbatiello.

2016 season’s trophies and medals presented

After an excellent buffet (There was even some food left over!) Rick Allen and Sarah Page presented the trophies and medals to the respective winners. The raffle included some excellent prizes – day at the cricket for 4, Rugby match tickets for 4 and cricket match at Worcester for 4. The latter wasjune won by our most illustrious member – Cayn Theakston (Winner of the 3 week Tour of Portugal in 1988). He promptly passed it on to our next most famous member June Pitchford who set comp record for womens 10 miles in 1966, won many national titles and represented GB in world track championships. The photograph on the right shows how happy she was to receive the tickets.

The highligalecht of the evening was Alec Davies accepting the presidential badge of honour.

His success follows on from Lee Suthard’s 3000 m pursuit title in 2014

Alec Davies – Club President

After many years with no club president the committee proposed that Alec Davies be made honorary unsung-hero-alec-daviespresident in recognition of the contribution he has made to the club over the past 40+ years.

Alec has accepted the position and said that he thought the ‘Unsung Hero’ awards in 2015 was the ultimate accolade but that this recognition by the club’s own members tops that.

The presidential chain will be presented at the club Christmas social on Friday 25th November.

This decision was made at Thursday night’s AGM, attended by 25 members who all received a free drink and a club badge.

Other news from the evening:

Club end of season social and trophy presentation is 25th November at The Swan at Whittington, 7pm. Tickets £10, limit 80 people – details will be posted soon. Organiser is Lewis Maiden

WSJCC will be hosting the National Hill Climb Championship in 2018 on 28th October at Shelsley Walsh. This will be a joint organisation with Wyre Forest CRC, managed by Rick Allen.

Ed Dursley is taking over from Matt Millward as chairman

The club is looking for somebody to store the all the race signs so they can be used for the 5 open events each year – preferably in the Worcester area.

29th January – Club reliability ride from WAC
