All About Us
All About Us
Worcester St. John’s Cycling Club was founded in 1888 to promote and encourage all aspects of cycling in Worcester. That is still our aim. No one aspect of cycling is promoted at the expense of any other, our members are active in cycle touring, club riding, sportives, cyclocross, track racing, time trials, road racing, mountain biking and ultra-distance events. We also have an active social side that encourages participation in club runs and club nights.
We cater for all levels of ability, from the novice to the experienced, and all ages. The Club provides a full calendar of racing events on the road through our affiliations to the British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials and during the summer we promote weekly evening time trials on local courses over distances of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 miles. Our achievements are frequently reported in the local press. See the Club Time Trial page for details.
Worcester St. John’s riders are in the thick of the action on local courses and in open events – contact our Racing Secretaries for any further information or guidance. Our most popular activities are weekly club runs. Members meet on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for rides of varying speeds and distances. See the Training/Club runs page for details.
We look forward to you joining us.
What type of riding are you interested in?
Each Tuesday from April to September there is a short-distance time trial (5 to 25 miles) on a variety of courses. The list of events is published each year and can be found on the club website. The current fee is £3 to enter (free for under 16’s). Minimum age is 12 years and anyone under 18 must have a consent form signed by a parent. Riders start at minute intervals and must not ride in the slipstream of another rider unless it is a ‘2-up’ event. Results are shown on the website within a few days of the event.
Road races take place most weekends from April to September all over the UK. Worcester St John’s and other clubs such as VC Sevale, Wyre Forest CRC, Beacon RC, and Bromsgrove Olympique run races locally. You must join British Cycling and hold a racing licence to race. Your bicycle will be checked before a race to ensure it is safe to ride. Road races have ’mass starts’ i.e. up to 60–80 riders starting together. You must be over 16 to race on public roads. There are races on motor racing tracks and closed circuits that younger riders can enter.
Club rides are usually organised every week and are posted on the club Facebook group page.
Please check the Facebook event before you attend or contact the ride leader as things can change due to weather, road closure, other events etc. When the club is organising a major event such as a road race, time-trial, hill-climb or cyclo-cross the club rides do NOT run as all club members are expected to assist with these major events.
For members interested in top end skinsuits, we now have club kit designs available at No-pinz.
The Tripsuit has integrated number pockets with either open or closed and male or female specific designs.
